PRISON OFFICERS.
INCREASE IN PAY. TIMARU, December 31. The Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister o* Justice, announces that the sum which wai placed on the Estimates last session for aik increase in prison officers' pay lias noys been allotted in accordance with the Public Service ■ Commissioner's rooommendationiif The rate of increment for prison officers, comprising chief warders and all below thaH rank, is fixed at £2O per annum \ for female officers, £ls; and for minor gaolers, £lO, All the increases axe to date from April 1 last, payable immediately. The pay of gaolers and other officers above the rank o 4 chief warder will be reviewed when the Comimi&sioners make a general reclassifioap tion next April.
