MILKING SHORTHORNS.

THE IDEAL BREED. In 1915 was published Volume I. of the Milking Shorthorn Herd Book, and the animals whose names appeared therein formed the foundation of the Association. Volume II disclosed a large addition to the herds of tho Dominion, and contained 2496 entries, the membership now being 350. Volume 111 is now in course of preparation, and entries of non-pedigree female stock will .be accepted for same until 30th June, 1918. The completion of this volume will show how the milking Shorthorn has. gained in popularity with dairymen and breeders. There is no doubt that the breed has proved itself to be as near the utility type as it is possible to get. The milk vield of tho Shorthorn is rich in butterfat, and the young stock always bring top prices as wcaners and onwards. At a recent Levin stock sale a pen of Shorthorn weaner steers sold at £8 14s, when other weancrs could not be quitted at all. Information as to membership and entries can be obtained from the secretary, Mr W. Hunter, Box 80, Palmerston North.
