A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. WELLINGTON, May 9. The Minister of Railways reports another successful year. The gross revenue for the 12 months ended March 31 was £4,687,700, as aganist a gross revenue of £4,800.810 for the year ended March 31, 1917, but it is £187,700 above the estimate. The expenditure was £3.042.906, as against £2,926,864 for 1917, or £99,406 in excess of the estimates. The increased expenditure is largely duo to the war bonus to employees, which was charged to a separate account in. the Consolidated Fund. The not revenue for the year wajf £1,644,724, as against £1,873,358 for the pre; vior.s year and £1.256,500 Thai net revenue was thus sufficient to give ah approximate return of £4 12s per cent, oil the capital invested in working railways.
