(Fnou Ova Own Correspondent) BALCLUTHA, May 2. Tho Balclutha potato market is soaring to a high level. It is stated that local growers are asking as high as £l6 per ton. Dull, cold weather, with frequent showers, •was experienced for tho opening of the shooting season on Wednesday morning, causing the birds to fly low. Few big bags were, however, recorded, though one pair of local shootists secured between them 19 clucks in the afternoon. The birds are in excellent condition. Tho total rainfall for the month of April at Balclutha was 204 points. Rain fell on lo days, tho minimum fall being on the 4th, when one point was recorded, and the maximum fall on the 29th, when 54 points wcro registered. Balclutha has quite a record in the form of war-time babies, 15 being registered at tho local registry office during the month of April. There- were two deaths, but no marriages were recorded.
