Combined French and American troops on the Lorraine front, for the first time, executed destructive attacks on enemy organisations, charging across 600 yards of No flan's Land. The Americans showed the utmost dash, and their artillery cooperated with excellent effecU The attack was preceded by heavy artillery fire. The Americans penetrated to a depth of 600 yards, reached the enemy's second line, and destroyed German dugouts. The Americans returned safely.
