NEXT SEASON'S WHEAT

REGULATING THE PRICE. WELLINGTON, March, 8. Cabiiiet has come to a decision as to the price to be offered for next season's wheat. It is not now considered that a conference with growers will be necessary. Greater difficulties are being encountered in the attempt-to regulate tho price of flour, and in regard to this question a conference may be necessary. Announcement of the Government's plans may bo expected early in the week. , VIEWS OF FARMERS. TIMARU, March 9. At a meeting of the ux.eou.tivo of the South Canterbury Farmers' Union to-cla.y the president (Mr John Talbot) referred at length to the question of wheat-growing. Tho present harvest in South Canterbury was estimated to average over all about 20 bushels of milliner wheat and three or four bushels of seconds, and averaging the cost, that meant an average loss of 30s per acre. Jn North Canterbury and North Otago tho yield was somewhat better, but nowhere was it good. Tho price this year (5s 10d) was based on an average of 27 bushels, and then the cost of production had to be considered. Unless tho present price was substantially increased farmers could not afford to grow wheat this year. Tho resolution was carried unanimously that tho Government be asked to fix tho price for next year's wheat at once, and that unless the price was substantially increased wheat would not bo grown .
