THE RETURNED SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL CLUB.

A meeting of the' Citizens' Committee in connection with the above was held on on the 27th ult., and was attended by the Mayor 'Mr J. J. Clark), who presided, Messrs 0. E. Statham, M.P., S. Solomon, K. I». Macasscy, J. J. Marlow, J. S. Sinclair, C. B. Smith, H. Harris, W. Clarke. M. J. White, W. Woods, J. H. M'Nish, J. R. Watson, and R. P. Jones. . It was considered inadvisable to complete the purchase of the Gladstone House site, and that a notification to this, effect be forwarded to the Returned Soldiers' . Association; and that negotiations for the cancellation of the sale with Mr Adams be left in the hands of the Finance Committee to act in conjunction with the Returned Soldiers' Association. The Secretary (Mr L. C Hanan) was instructed to write to* the Presbyterian Church Board of Property requesting' them to cancel the present lease of the land on which the Anzac Club is situated, and issue a new, lease for a term of 14 years-, containing the usual provisions for a continuous right of renewal. It was pointed _ out by the principal speakers that the ao- ' commodation of the present building would prove altogether inadequate when further soldiers return, and an idea the committee has in mind is to erect a new building on the site mentioned. Mr Harris, convenor of the Sports Committee, reported' that, owing to tho approach of the winter months, it had been decided not to hold a .sports, meeting, but to organise a garden fete.
