EARL'S DAUGHTER'S TEA. A fine of £BO was imposed by the Chertsey magistrate. on January 2 upon Lady Mabel Gore Langton (daughter of the fourth Earl Temple), of the Glado, Englefield green, for obtaining food in excessive quantities on dates since the previous April! The police on searching defendant's residence found: 1251 bof tea, 351 bof coffee, 12 tins of condensed milk, a box of spaghetti, 91b of cornflour, 71b of tapioca, 231 b of currants, 201 b of sugar, of sultanas, 7lb of raisins. All but 121 bof the tea was seized. The household consists of 12 persons. Replying to the police superintendent, Lady Mabel said she was unaware that the majority of poor persons could obtain only 2oz of te-a weekly, and sometimes not that, for three months past. A magistrate remarked that there was sufficient in the house to last a year.
