MR WEBB'S PLANS.
EFFECT OF WELLINGTON NORTH ELECTION. (Fbom Oub Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, March 1. It is possible that the result of the Wellington North election may have some effect on the plans that Mr P. C. Webb has had in mind for his future. If Mr Holland had been returned the Socialists would have moved heaven and earth to get Mr Webb exempted from service. They -would not have succeeded, but in their attempts they -would have made a lot of trouble for the Government, and probably also for the people of this country. The wisdom of the policy of the Government in refusing to give Mr Webb opposition when ho resigned his seat, and so denying him an opportunity to have a contest on the issue of whether ho should go to the war or not is now apparent. Mr Webb still says that he will not hold his seat, and go to the war_ as well. This may mean that ho will resign his seat again and manoeuvre again for a fight.
