A DANGEROUS HIGHWAY.

PALMERS-TON N., March 3. Advice has been received that a tremendous land-slide . occurred on the Cliff road, To Kawhatau, on Thursday last, and is probably the largest slip that has taken place at'this spot, though some huge slides have happened in the past. The cliff slipped away not far from the Mangaweka Town Board's power-house, and it is reported that thousands of tons of debris were brought down, and so great was the amount _of mullock hurled into the Rangitikei River that its passage was blocked for some time. There is probably no more dangerous portion of the King's highway in New Zealand than this deathtrap on the Kawhatau Valley extension. Every winter brings its harvest of accidents and narrow escapes, and even this latest slip very nearly overwhelmed a motor lorrr loaded with sheep for the Taihap© ram fair, and driven by F. Noblo.
