ALLEGED LIBEL
CHRISTCHURCH, February 25. In the Supreme Court, before Mi - Justice Chapman and a common jury of 12- Beath and Co. (drapers, Christchurch) claiaied £IOOO damages for alleged libel from Mauriel Goldsborough (journalist, Wellington), Frederick J times Dawson (publisher, Wellington), and the John Bull Newspaper Proprietary Company, Wellington, for publishing an. article in John Bull's Register on July 16 which, it was claimed, falsely and maliciouslv misrepresented facts as to the orig'n of the plaintiff companv s cap tal and the nationality of its shareholders. After an hour's retirement the jury returned with a verdict for one farthing damages. The question of costs was reserved.
