OWAKA.
February 23. —We have had several weeks of dry, sunny weather, and the roads are in splendid condition. Some residents are complaining of shortage of water/ and the grass is a good deal scorched;- but notwithstanding this the fine weather is most enjoyable. One cannot help remarking upon the abundant growth of noxious weeds, and I have seen whole fields one mass of yellow ragwort. Harvesting is progressing, and there are sor.-i© heavy crops to be seen. Flower Show.—On Friday, February 22, the third Horticultural Show was held. The Weather was very good, and everything went off nicely. The entries were, on the whole, very fair, though Messrs Allen and Middleton, who exhibited largely on preceding occasions, wore greatly missed. Mr Naish judged the fruit, flowers, and vegetables, and Miss M. Ford the household produce. The Red Cross ladies dispensed afternoon tea in an adjoining room, and were much gratified at the. loyal support which they were accorded. At the close of the day the president, Mrs Shaw, was able to announce that the amount taken was £ll 2s. Y.M.C.A. Fund.—The ladies intend in two weeks' time tc have a stall in the street in
aid of the Y.M.C.A. work, and are busy with their preparations. It is to bo hoped that they will be accorded hearty support by the public.
