WAIKAIA.
Fehruary 25.—Very warm, sunny days have been our experience during last week. A shower of rain fell last night, which was much needed, as water tanks were nearly day. The shearing is now finished in the district. The potatoes all over the Waikaia farm® and gardens are blighted, which will be a seriou-s loss.
Sheep Dog Trials,—The annual meeting of the aWikaia Sheep Dog Trials Association was held lately, Mr J. Dennis presiding. The following officers were appointed:—Vice-pre-sidents—Messrs "W. Aitken, A. Christie, senr., R. S. Charters, W. Cronin, J. Faulks, C. Hutton, .and W. Spence; Working 'Committee —Messrs A. Christie, A. Cameron, "W. Collins, J. Dennis, G. Burke, J. C. Chapman, W. Ayson, J. Jones, W. Mackay, T. M'Kinnell, D. Pringle, and J. Stenning; secretary, MiJ. M'Crostie. It was resolved to hold the annual trials on March 22 ami 23. Practically the same programme as last year was approved of, and all the profits will be devoted to patriotic purposes. Personal.—The people in Waikaia were very sorry to hear of the death of Senior Bugler George Coom'oe, who died at Tidworth Hospital, London. Deceased a member of the staff of the National Bank, Gore, and visited Waikaia weekly on banking business prior to proceeding to- the front. He was a capable and meat obliging official, and highly esteemed by many friends. He was the son of Mr H. Cbombe, Milton a where he Was bom; and was 23 years of age. Mr D. Wilson, who underwent an operation in hospital in D'unedin, is making a good recovery, and will shortly be back to Waikaia.
