WAIKOUAITI COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti County Council, held on Friday, was attended by Crs E. Laley (chairman), /P. Briscoe, A. M'Lachlan, J. M*Leod, J. M'Gill, and A. S. Orhell. RIDING ISFORTS. The Inspector submitted reports on work in the various ridings, the reports being approved. In the Morton Riding it was jdecided that work on Pullar's road was 'to go on when the gorse had been cleared. With respect to tho report on Blueskm Riding roads, it was decided that the worst portion of the Kuvarika road be repaired, provided the residents concerned find twothirds of the cost. CORRESPONDENCE. The Treasury forwarded a voucher for £438 15s, representing 75 per cent, of subsidy due on rates. —Received. The District Railway Engineer wrote stating that" he would arrange for tho inspector . of permanent way to meet the county inspector and point out what was required to improve the view at the level Crossing at Warrington.—Received. The and Charitable Aid Board ■wrote requesting payment of the balance of the council's levy amounting to £lB6 13s 4d. —Received. Mr A. C. M'Georgo (Roslyn) wrote enclosing, on behalf of the residents affected, a cheque for £B3 13s 4d, being two-thirds of the cost of metalling the xoad from Dr King's bathing house to the Main road.— Received. --> Mr E. G. Bezc'tt (Morton) wrote asking for repairs to his road. —The inspector was instructed to carry out the surfacing required. Dr E. 11. Williams wrote asking permission to -make an entrance for a motor car to his section at Blucskin.—Permission granted, subject to inspector's approval. Mr M. G. Thomson wrote complaining about gates on Murdering Beach road.— Received. _ The Clerk of the Manawatu County Council . forwarded a resolution passed by his council pointing out that through the Railway Department refusing to run special race trains a large amount of extra traffic had been thrown on the roads, so that the extra cost of repairing the damage done in jthat county amounted to at least £IOOO per annum. The resolution asked the support of local bodies in advocating the resumption of race trains, bo that this loss might be avoided. —The council agreed to Support tho motion. Mrs Russell (George street, Dunedin) •wrote complaining of surface water coming through the culvert in Station road, Warrington, running over her section. Sho claimed that the council had diverted the ■water by means of the culvert, and asked that a drain be put in at .the side of the road. —Inspector to be asked to report. Mr James Shaw (Seacliff) wrote complaining of the large stones on the road leading from Seacliff past his property .—Or M'Leod said the road was through the Asylum grounds. The Asylum .authorities had had the boulders put there, and they should be asked to remove them.—lt was decided to ask tho Asylum authorities to do so. The Secretary of tho Otago Motor Club iyrroto stating that the council's inspector estimated the cost of tho formation of a road from Karitano to Morton Station at £215, and in addition there would bo £BS for metalling, making a 'total of £3OO. Ho asked if the council would be agreeable to have the road made, provided tho Motor plub found £IOO towards its cost.—The secretary also intimated that a deputation would wait on the council with regard to tho upkeep of tho road that was recently repaired. —The /deputation, however, did riot appear, and both letters were simply received. Word was received later that the car bringing tho deputation had broken down on tho Kilmog Hill. GENERAL. Accounts amounting to £4-14 17s Id wero passed for payment. Cr Briscoe said that a ratepayer had complained to him that in one part of the county the council was paying 16s a day for a man with a dray and two horses, and In another part IBs for tho samo work. — The Inspector explained that a bonus of 2a fyna given in certain parts in the county.— it was decided to raise the rate of pay rom 123 to 14s for a man with a single torse, and from 16s 'to 18s for a man with wo horses.
