TWENTY AND A-HALF MILLIONS PAID. DISTRIBUTION OF THE MONEY. Tho total number of bales of wool valued under the requisition scheme for the Imperial Government since December 1, 1916, to February 16, 1918, is 905,914, of which 861,503 have been paid for, representing a vflue of £20,591,641. Total - 861,503 Of the 1917-18 clip, 408,000 bales have already been valued, and it is anticipated that by the end of March the bulk of that clip will have been valued and paid for. Shipments of wool to date total 462,865 bales. Of this quantity 8866 have been lost in transit as a result of the enemy s submarine campaign. : The Imperial Supplies Department, which has handled all this "big business" in wool, has, in addition, arranged details for the advance of £1,401,871 against 58,246 bales of freezing companies' stipe wool. Of the number of bales of this wool mentioned, 49,761 have been already shipped. The total amount paid to date in respect of wool and sheepskins is £22,672,064. It is estimated that further payments to the end of March will absorb approximately £3,500,000, making' the total payment for wool under the scheme approximately well over £26,000,000. The largest individual valuation by any one broker represented 5588 bales, valued at £138,799, was submitted by the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Co-operative Association (Ltd.). The largest complete valuation at any one centre was held at Napier, and lepresented 12,970 bales, valued at £321,063. The larsresfc amount remitted in any one day by the Department of Imperial Supplies on account of wool was £558,133, on December 28, 1917.
