BOWLING.

The Singles championship of the Southland Centre has been won by A. E. Smith, of tile Southland Club; with M'Dougaii ot of the Southland Club; with M'Dougaii, of Blurt", as runner-up. This is the first year in which Mr Smith has been champion of his club, and he last week added to it the Centre championship. 'i'ne riokonui and Gore Bowling Clubs joined forces last week to hold a fete in aid of the patriotic funds, and success attended their efforts. Favoured by beautiful weather, and aided by the members of the local/tennis clubs, the public turned ouyt well, and good business was done at the stalls presided over by the ladies. The Mayor of Gore (Mr D. M'Dougaii) opened tho fete with a patriotic. speech, and was followed by Mr G. J. Anderson, M.P. An Auckland scribe says he does not think the Dominion tournament in Dunedin was a success from a visitors' point of view and he hopes Auckland, next year, will do better. He adds that, when a visitor from the north journeys to the south, accompanied by his wife, it is a small matter to include his better half in the hospitality shown to bowlers. v ELDERLY BOWLERS' DAY.
