WELLINGTON. February 13. Tliis morning a number of arrests were effected of alleged bookmakers, an assistant in a oomnlon gambling house, and men found -without lawful excuse on such pre« inisos. The men arrested were—John LcUcUaw Walling, for keeping a shop in Willis street as a common gaming house; Arthur Wailing for assisting in the conduct 11 such house; James Henry Rogers, for uett.m? in tho Empire Hotel; Percy A niters, for betting in the Duke of Edinburgn Ho,el; George- William Lees, Edgar Bert Edwards, Frank Greaney, Bernard O’Connell, Artmur Cunningham, George Avery, and Frederics Knight, for being found without lawful., excuse in a common gambling house. , On the application of Chief Detective i Boddam remands were granted till to mor- 1 row in tho first four cases, bail being ?l- j lowed in the sum of £25, one surety of £25, and in the other cases £5. A further remand will probably be asked for. February- 14.

Yesterday afternoon the police arrested Henry Martindale, Clarence Lesueur, and Henry Walls for breaches of the Gaming Act. "* Fourteen men. including 11 arrested in tho morning, appeared before the court this morning.
