SALVATION ARMY WAR FUND APPEAL.

STREET COLLECTION. Friday morning- broke fine for the final effort in connection with the Salvation Army's wax fund appeal. By 7 o'clock the boxes had been delivered at all the stands, and shortly after that hour the lady collectors put in an appearance" to catch "the early bird." One of the first donations received was from a returned soldier. When he saw the Salvation Army lassie, his hand immediately dived into his pocket, and he said, "Yes, I intend to give something to this collection.to-day, as I thoroughly appreciate the good work the Army is doing at the front." The people appeared to be in tntire sympathy with the object, and gave willingly and pleasantly. Many firms and employees have already been canvassed, which naturally took away from the amount received m the streets, but nevertheless tho amount secured is considered to be most satisfactory. . . In the evening the Army Band played at various stands, and Mr F. G. Camming, and Mrs J. K. Mocfie made appeals to the listeners, while the lady collectors were busy with their boxes. In this way a considerable sum -was obtained for the collection. Tho committee desires to convey its thanks to*.the lady organisers and the lady collectors for their indefatigable efforts, and congratulates them on the results achieved. It also desires to convey its thanks to those ladies who took up collections in the residential areas. Thanks are also duo to the National Bank officials for receiving and counting the collection. Bank of New Zealand. —Hod Cross Society (Miss Rattray), £43 17«. Stark's Corner.—Salvation Army ' (Mrs Peart), £27 16s 7d. City Hotel .Corner. —Overseas Club (Mrs Geo. Ritchie), £lO 19s Bd. Hallcnstein's Corner.—Y.W.C.A. (Mrs Bowie), £39 9s,'including £7 17s collected by Miss Wilkinson, £7 7s 9d collected by Miss Thomson, £l2 16s per Mrs M'Kerras, amounts collected in residential areas. A large number- of subscription lists and donations are not yet in. The Salvation Army Band did good work, and with the s'tiiring appeals made by Mr F. G.
