February 11.—During: the past week the weather has been extremely hot and muggy, with light 'warm rain and thunder showers, which will no doubt freshen up tie grass and tin-nips, but has retarded harvesting, which is now in full swing. Personal.—l _ regret to report that Mrs Walker, sen., is seriously ill, and is an inmate of a private hospital in Dtmedin. Accident.—While a car driven by Miss Allan, of Mosgiel, was attempting- to negotiate the Mill Hill, above the Outram Glen, the gears refused to aet, causing the car to run backwards and upset over the bank. Fortunately the two occupants managed to jump clear, and escaped unlraxi, but the car was considerably damaged. A Warning.—Motorists, and especially cyclists, should exercise caution when approaching the West Taieri bridge. The silt of tha recent floods is still on the road at the foot of th« approach, which makes it in wet weather an exceedingly slippery and dangerous spot to the unwary cyclist, and quite, a number have come to grief at this spot. Back from th« War.--PnVato Arthur Lyttle, who left with the Seventh Reinforcements, and who has seen two and a-half years' active scrvico in Egypt and France, returned home on Monday last, after being twice wounded during the recent fighting in Flanders. Passed as Fit.—Lamonl Thomson, who has just reached military age, was passed fit by tho _ Medical Board on volunteering for service.
