LAKE COUNTY.

February 9.—The weather continues very warm, and rain is badly wanted. It has threatened rain almost every day, but, unfortunately, the clouds rolled by. Harvesting is now general, and one of the thrashing mills is out thrashing out of the stook. Welcome Home.—A public reception was tendered in the Garrison Hall, Queenstown, last evening to Petty-officer Wright and Privates R. P. Anderson and W. M'Lelland, who recently returned from the front. There was a large attendance, and the proceedings were most enthusiastic. Military Service Board.—A sitting of the Otago Military Service Board was held in Queenstown on Tuesday. Nineteen appeals were dealt with, 12 of which were adjourned oases, two Second Division, and a rehearingj and two C2. Personal.—Mt A. W. Creighton, who has boen cactet in the Ai-rowtown post office for the past five months, has received notice of his transfer to Naseby. During the short time' he has beer, stationed in Arrowtown he has proved himself a most efficient officer, and gereral regret is expressed at his departure. Mr C. H. Wright, from the Oamaru gallery, has been appointed to Arrowtown. • Ifrr William Galloway, a resident of the district for upwards of half a century, left on Wednesday for Fortrose, where he purposes residing with friends. Professor Hewifcson (of Knox College, Dunedin) and his wife are spending a holiday, in Queenstown. The -Rev. Andrew Cameron, 8.A., Chancellor of the University of Otago, accompanied by his wife and daughters, is also spending a holiday in Queenstown. Mr Charles Martin, who entered the service of the Post and Telegraph Department at Arrowtown some years ago, visited his relatives in this district last week. Mr Martin, who Las been attached to the Featherston Camp office for the past few months, enlisted for active service when he reached the age of 20, and goes into camp shortly. An uncle of his Private Alfred Joblin) left with the Main Body. Mr John Fletcher, Arrowtown, left last week to go into camp with the Thirtj'sixth Reinforcements. General.—Mr R. M. Paterson, of Ayrburn, Arrowtown, attended the sale at Master ton of Mr Perry's Romney and Lincoln sheep, and made several purchases of Romney rams, including one costing 200 gs.
