NEW ZEALAND BRANCH. CHRISTCHURCH, February 7." The second annual meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Branch of the British Red Cross Society and tho Order of St. John was held to-day. The GovernorGeneral presided. Hi 3 Excellency presented a report on tho work proposed in connection with the functional treatment of returned soldiers, and after a discussion the following resolution was unanimously carried: —"That this council approves of the establishment of workshops and recreation rooms for tho functional treatment of soldiers, and authorises expenditure for that purpose to tho extent of £2OOO to meet present requirements, such cost to bo shared equally by tho four centres."' It was pointed out that the Red Cross Inquiry Bureau was performing a largo amount of work in making inquiries for missinir and wounded soldiers, and it waa found "that the inquiries were fairly evenly distributed over the whole dominion. It was resolved that each of the four centres: should contribute ono-fourth of the total expenses, which are estimated at £250 peiannuna. In regard to Red Cross food comforts tho desirability of shipping foodstuffs to London in view of tho present food shortage waa discussed, and it was resolved, if it be foa-jd necessary after inquiry, that power bo left with the New Zealand executive to arrange for the four centres to combine in sending food comforts to England for sick and wounded soldiers an returning liners and transports
