Allan Townsley. the 14-yenr-old son of Mr F. Townsley, of JVlaheno, met with an accident when bathing in the Kakanui River. He- struck his head on the bed of the river, Avhile diA-ing. His head Avas rather severely cut, necessitating seA-eral stitches. The rainfall at Waihi in January established something of a record, the total fall being 8.41 in, compared with Auckland's 4.17 in. Rain fell on 22 days, the heaviest being on the 15th,- Avhen 3.20 in was registered. The thermometer recorded over 80 degrees in the shade on two occasions. For Progressive People!
