At tho Waimafce Flower Show the champion rose and the sweetest-smelling rose were sold by auction on behalf of the Red Cross and Lady Liverpool Funds. They realised £237 13s 9d. The American Secretary of State (Mr" Robert W. Lansing) announced in a speech at Ludington. in Michigan, last week, that agreement had been arrived at with Great Britain and Canada, by which 500,000 men of military age who are _ British or Canadian citizens, but are resident in the United States, will bo either drafted into the United States army or permitted to return Homo for service.
