SHEEP DOG NOTES.
"Black-and-white" writes: —"Old Bob. another of those sterling good dogs so fast disappearing, has recenty gone fcho way of all flesh. This dog, so well and widely
known as Kecf's Bob, was a warrior of many keenly-contested huntaway events. His forto was realy on the open hill slope or rough gully, where work was to be done, and Bob was just the dog that could do it. No matter how near or far, hard or stubborn the lot, Bob had. few compeers and probably no superiors. Ho was truly a worthy son of a notable sire, Pollock's Old. Clyde. Another of this class was Waters's Old Bob, a veritable power in any push. Place these three dogs to any one charge and it would bo a pretty hard matter to give preference on merit to either, though, probably, both Pollock's and Waters's have the better register of trial performances. One thing certain is—and it is a regrettable faot —that there are no more Bobs about. Unfourtunately, I do not think Bob's records have been kept. If they had. I am sure they would have been read with interest by a very wide circlo of trial enthusiasts. If I remember rightly, it was six or seven years ago that this consistent dog first competed unsuccessfully. The following year he made good at his one attempt, notching a first, with one point short of possible. The next year at Burke's Pass, he ran two and a-nalf points 6hort of maximum to his kennel mate, A. M'Gregor's Bob, -worked by Mr Keeft'e. For the following year I have no record; but the next season finds him notching the possible, and also the following year he won at Burke's Pass, with but one point down, though showing effect of age, and last year, notwithstanding very marked aging infirmities, he ran very consistently at several trials, though not actually winning."
