THE VICTORIA SOLD. It was reported yesterday (says the Svd« eny Shipping List of January 19) that 1.119 well-known steamer Victoria, of Messrs Hud-dart, Parker's fleet, had been sold to Eastern buyers, but would still continue to run on the" Australian coast. The Victoria is a steel -vessel of 2869 tons serosa, and 1870 tons net, and was built at Dundee in 1902,; She was built principally for the passenger and cargo serviee between the commoiv wealth and Now Zealand ports. During thai years the Victoria has been engaged in tins service she has made quite a name for herself as a popular passenger steamer. The Dunedin office of the company has been ad* vised that the vessel's sailings to New Zealand have been cancelled. DUNEDIN-INVERCARGILL TRADE. A NEW SCHOONER. Another vessel will soon be placed h\ the Dunedin-Invercargill-Riverton trade, th<* bulk of which at present- is handled by the> Kotare. A local syndicate has just completed negotiations for the purchase of the Auckland auxiliary schooner May Howard, which has been employed in. the- coastal trade round Auckland for many years, and which has put up some good sailing records* at the Auckland anniversary regattas. Captain W. Cameron, who ia well known iqf local shipping circles, will command the vessel for her new owners, and should' reach Dunedin with the schooner in abous two weeks. ! The May Howard, which was built atf Brisbane Water (N.S.W.) in 1886, is $ wooden ship of 55 tons net register, and is fitted with a 60 h.p. oil engine aa an auxili* ary. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. will bo the Dunedin agents.
