IMPOSITION AND THEFT.
. AUCKLAND, January 29. At the Tolioo Court to-day, William James Courtney and Win. Walter Dunn were charged with collecting' money for the war fund without a permit, and steal- l ing 25s belonging to the Soldiers' Club. j The evidence showod that they went to the olub and got returned soldiers to write out a heading for a subscription list. Courtney pleaded guilty, but asked for Jenienoy, as he had already served at the front, and would return there. Dunn stated
that he thought the list was genuine. Courtney, who had previous convictions, was fined £lO for collecting funds, and was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for theft. Dunn was fined £2 on the first charge.
