WELLINGTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) January 30. Miss Do Val is to be shipped south on Saturday next to fulfil her engagements at the Dunedin Cup meeting. iSo far nothing has been definitely decided about the other North Island competitors. Nobleman is also in at Wanganui, which is next door to where ho is trained. Multicipal was sore at Trentham, and may bo given a lot up. Devotion wa,s all right after racing here, but Probation had a big foreleg. Trainers do not like the idea of having to break the train journey. It is stated that there is a boat only once a fortnight from Wellington to Dunedin. Matilda has been purchased by Mr Eric Russell, owner of Mohawk, and is to mako her first appearance in her new owner's colours at Wingatui. She will probably go south in charge of H. Telford, if ho goes. The Southland owner is at present in camp at Trentham. Your correspondent does not think the colours of Mr W. E. Bichvill have yet been carried at a Dunedin meeting. Silver Link (Achilles—Secret Link), winner of both Nursery Handicaps at the Takapuna meeting, was bred at the Waikanao stud and purchased by her present owner for 80 guineas. It is reported that G. Price is to go linto camp in April, and that S. Reid will have charge of the Highden team. February 2. The annual meeting of the Paliiatua Racing Club passed off pleasantly on Tuesday. The only one of the Trentham contingent to score was Occasion (Provocation —St. Alma) ; who got through on the rails and scored in the Maiden Hack Race. She is trained by A. Goodman, who has Mr Whitney's-. horses. Belgian Maid (Martian—Hebrew Maid), a full sister to Thrax, was the popular pick for the Ballance Hack Handicap, and ran a igood race, but had no chance of beating iSilenus (Signor—Polycaste). After the good race sho ran on tho second day at Trentham, Street Singer appeared to have an easy task in the Hack Flying Handicap. She led for about five furlongs where Hastie joined in, and won nicely. Master Moutoa, who was placed in the Manawatu and Foxton Cups, was considered the best of the lot in tho Pahiatua Handicap; but he was never near the front. Joan Laddo and Quinn's Post led in turns, and they looked like fighting it out, when Snub appeared on- the scene and won comfortably. This is the first win for the present owner, and the first time ho has been placed sine© the Now Zealand Cup meeting. With the exception of Haumakaka, Snub was tho biggest outsider of the lot. Birkenetta. a good beginner, who races best when fresh, never gave any of her opponents a look in in the Makuri Hack Handicap. Humorist, ridden out. beat Occasion for second place. Birkenetta was making her first appearance in the colours of E. T. Yuile, the Levin trainer. Fabisco (Vasco—Fabia), a stable mate of Snub, ridden out bv L. Morris, got home in the Konini Hack Handicap from Momac. who was successful in the Welter Hack Handicap later in the afternoon. Astrophel (Finland—Asteroid) scored his third _ successive win in the Telephone Handicap. He looics like turning out more useful than his stable mate Crowhurst.
