SHEEP DOG NOTES.

Tho Executive Committee of the Mackenzie Dog Club met on the 26th ult. and advanced matters of interest in the near approaching annual trials, the president, Mr G. Macintosh, presiding. It was finally agreed to run the competitions on Wednesday and Thursday—consequent on March 29 being Good Friday—and it was hoped that running the trial so near Easter woidd be helpful to visitors, especially those travelling a distance. It was resolved unanimously to again ask Mr M. L. Elliot to officiate as judge, and in tho event of his inability, ■Southland's "Oha.rn.pion Sport" was nominated as -reserve. The club is again fortunate in having the patronage of a strong band of donator» of special prizes, including no fewer than a dozen gold medals, and numerous other valuable trophies. So tho club's schedule will easily be the most attractive invitation to competitors yet issued. An innovation is a challenge shield limited to returned soldiers, under similar conditions to the club's open shield, the winner for the year having his name inscribed thereon and receiving a two-guinea gold' medal. There is also a very valuable trophy reserved for local returned soldiers aggregating most points at meeting. The shield is limited to one dog performances. Tho ground that served so suitably last year has again been placed at the club's disposal. So the club's officials confidently look forward to a very satisfactory gathering.
