BRIGHTON NOTES.

Tho Domain Board has installed an up-to-date Kfe-saving reel on the beach, thanks to tho generous help of the St. Clair Club and donations from many friends. Everyone hopes it will not be. necessary to use tho reel, but in case of emergency all is ready. Mr D. M'L. AYhitson has been asked to take charge and inaugurate a club. Tho women's bathing shed has also been enlarged'—separate compartments arranged for children under 16. These additions have been much appreciated. A working bee, headed by Messrs W. HL. Christie, M. Stevenson, and others, caused tho men's shelter of manuka posts and rails to rise quickly. This has been interlaced with scrub. A division, making a separate apartment for the boys, gives a warm and cosy corner for all, and will

eliminate what was becoming a nuisance to one and all, undressing on the beach. The season ha? been a good one, every house being occupied again a.nd again. Many tents wore also noticeable. Altogether the season has been an cnjoyabie one. , The Presbyterian Church and diatnct has been fortunate in having the services of the Rev. A. C. Wedderspoon (late of_ Tauranga) for the past two months. His services hrtve been much appreciated. The attendance at the church has been more than gratifying, to both offico-lx-.arors and ministor. " Many expressions of regret ware heard when his farewell was announced. On Saturday Mr Wedderspoon gave- a lecturcrte on " Humours in Clerical Life." _ This g roved to' be an excellent entertainment, [is repository of stories was full to the bi-im. He was ablv supported with musical items by the following:—Mrs T. Finnic, Miss Conic Aslin. Messrs AILm Hunter and Arthur Alloc The proceeds will help to provide music for the local choir. Judging from the outburst of applause which followed Mr W. L. Forrester s motion of thanks, everyone was more than pleased.
