THE TEVIOT ESTATE.
SECURED BY THE GOVERNMENT. WELLINGTON, January 29. The Prime Minister stated to-dny: —" The Government has purchased, for the purpose of a soldiers' settlement, the property in. Ota"-o known as Teviot, consisting of 12,500 acre's of freehold and 19.000 acres of Crown leasehold. The greater part of it will be cut up into sheep farms. A considerable portion is suitable for agricultural purposes, and good crops have been grown on the proporty during the season. A small proportion of the land is suitable for fruit-growing. This is looked upon as one of the best of the largo holdings now remaining in tho South Island." , The Government has decided to purchase the Teviot estate at the price of £75,000—• the figure which the property Was put under offer to it. Thiß information was convtey©4 yesterday to the selling agents, Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., by the Publio Trustee.
