ARTHUR'S PASS TUNNEL.
CHRISTCHURCH, January 29. Representatives of the Canterbury and West Coast Chambers of Commerce and local bodies visited Otira to-day to make an inspection" of the Arthur's Pass tunnel works, which, when completed, will give direct railway communication between the two provinces. At present only a few chains separato the two headings. At a conference this evening a resolution was carried expressing appreciation of the manner in which the work wag_ being prosecuted in face of the difficulties presenting themselves in these distressing times, and, in v{ow of the national importance of the tunnel, urging its completion with all possible speed.
