OTAGO DAILY TIMES AND WITNESS MUTUAL PROVIDENT SOCIETY.

The thirty-eighth annual meeting of the Otago Daily Times and Otago Witness Mutual Provident Society was held on the 30th ult., a dozen members being present. Mr A. I*. Whelham (president) said that the work of the society during 'the year had proved how useful the institution had been to members: The report showed that £B9 had been paid out in sickness benefits and mortality claim, against £127 last year. Tho working expenses of the society came to £2l. The loss on the year's working was £1 .19s 4d, caused principally through a reduced membership consequent on tho war. The subscriptions to the endowment fund totalled £74 14s 9d, and the company's subsidy of £4O enabled a dividend of 10s 4d to be placed to each member's credit. Interest from investments came to £43 9s 3d. After placing £3 18s to the credit of members, £9 lis 3d was left to carry on 'the general work of the society. The membership is now reduced to 80. with a total to their credit of £1047 9s lOd, and' a balance to carry forward of £8 3s 4d. The following office-bearers were elected for the eneuing "year: —President, Mr W. Beeby; vice-president, Mr 0. Foley; treasurer, Mr W. R. Sinclair; secretary, Mr A Wilson; committee —Messrs C. Beeby, A. Chisman, R. Ferguson, G. Freeman, and A. Lye; auditors, Messrs H. P. Harvey and J. Gray; trustees, -Messrs W. H. Adams and H. Harris. A vote of thanks wan passed to the auditors for their services.
