ALEXANDRA NOTES.
ALEXANDRA, January 28. The directors and shareholders of the Otago Central Fruitlands paid their annua! visit to their extensive orchard lands, situate at Fruitlands, previously known as Bald Hill Flat, about eight miles from Alexandra, on Saturday. The visitors included Mr Reynolds, Mr Mark Cohen, Mr Fenwick, Mr Speight, and Mr Dennis'ton. The result of the inspection was very gratifying to all, the estate looking exceedingly well. Besides the large number of fruit trees, all of which are doing remarkably well, the company has 50 acres in wheat and about 130 acres in oats. Nothing better in tho way of 'theee crops could _ be wished for, the wheat standing 4ft 6in high. The directors expressed themselves as more than satisfied with the present progress, and are exceedingly hopeful for the future. The Rev. J. Standring, recently of Middlemarch, was inducted minister in charge of tho Alexandra-Clyde parish laet Friday, find a largo welcome social was held in tho church the same evening. The Rev. A. V. G. Chandler, of Becks, retiring Moderator, was presented with a cheque in appreciation of his services as Moderator during the eight months' vacancy. The local- bowling club has succeeded in retaining the Jolly Memorial Cup against the challenges of the Clyde Club (played laet Wednesday) and the Nascby Club (clayed last Saturday). It is expected that Cromwell will soon make an effort to recapture this handsome trophy. Mr Tom Barry, who died in the Clyde Hospital last Saturday morning, as the result of an accident, was a shepherd employed with Mr S. Spain, of Earnscleugh. Mr Barry (an elderly man) was thrown from bis horse on Thursday night when well up in the mountain, hurting hie back so that he was unable to move. He was accompanied by two boya, one of whom went to the station for help, and Barry was carried to the nearest hut. Early on. Friday morning a party of six, including Mr Spain, left with a stretcher to bring the man from tho hill*, and he was taken direct to the Clyde Hospital. His condition on Friday was reported to be improving, but on Saturday he passed away. Mr Spain, who is chairman of the Vincent. County, was prevented by this accident from being pre-
