OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on the 24th; Mr James Macandrew (president) in the chair. The Chairman moved —"That this meeting deeply regrets the loss the society has sustained by the death of Mr W. J. J. Charters; that it record in its minutes the appreciation of his long services as committeeman, exhibitor, and friend, and that a letter of condolence be forwarded to Mrs Charters and the members of his family."—This was carried, members standing. It was also decided to place on record regret at the death of Mr Alex. Hamilton, M.R.C.V.SL, who was hon. veterinary Burgeon of the society for 28 years, and appreciation of the services rendered by him during that time. The Secretary oi the Otago Expansion League wrote, inviting. members from this society to, attend a meeting of the league to hear the scheme of the Southland League for the utilisation of the enormous hydroelectric energy of the province.—Messrs Cantrell and Hazlett were appointed to represent the society, and as many more of of the members as could attend be asked to do so. It was resolved that the .schedule of prizes for the "Winter Show, with the exception of the fruit section, '. which was referred, to a sub-committee with power to act, be revised at next meeting of committee. ,' The date of the annual ram fair was fixed for Thursday, March 28 next. It was reBolved to write and thank Messrs C. and A. Blackwood for then.- helpful services at last ram fair. Accounts amounting to £92 14s lid were Submitted and passed for payment. Some discussion arose over the report of the coroner's remarks in reference to the show ground conditions, made at the inquest on the body of the late Mr Hamilton, and a sub-committee was appointed to look into the matter in the interests of the society, and to report to a future meeting.
