Some delightful metaphor oamo out in the Hnivcra Magistrate's Court. A witness, plaintiff in a defended case, declared that "tho defendant had threatened to blow his brains out with a tomahawk in his hand." Tho expression created much merriment. Cross-examined on the point, the defendant in the action denied that, ho had used such threatening language. Ho admitted, however, that "I threatened to push plaintiff's face through to the back of his neck." A small whale was washed ashore- on tho Mokau beach a few days ago. The finder carved his initials on it to prove his ownership and went away to arrange for securing tho oil. After he had epent the ,rcst of the day in gathering many empty kerosene tins, and hiring a bullock team to take them to the beach, ho found the tide had been in and borne iho whale away.
