INCOME TAX.
ONE COLLECTION THIS YEAR. WELLINGTON, January 21. The Minister of Finance made a statement to-night regarding the collection of the income tax. "This year the tax is duo on January 28," said the Minister, "and the commissioner has advised me that in ordinary years the notices for payment of the tax should be issued ab'out January 22. The department has already begun the issue of somo of the notices, and during the week the notices to ihe joint stock companies will be got out, ■ and also a section of the notices to individuals. The rest of tho notices will be late. They will bo issued in sequence, and a new due date fixed in accordanoe with tho provisions of section 127 of the Land and Income Tax Act. It is expected that the notices will be cleared just before the end of February. . "Up till now the work has been concentrated on the issue of notices to companies, as they rfre the largest taxpayers, but "it is expected that all the notices will be issued in time to enable the department to get its revenue i,n before the end of March. Although tho "notices are»late this year they are not so late as thev were last year, when the last notices were issued in July. We arc asking that the whole amount of the tax be paid in one sum this year, in order to' get all the payments complete bv March 31."
