THE KAUNGAROA TRAGEDY.
BENNIER EXECUTED. WELLINGTON, January 19. Bennier, tho Kaurangaroa murderer, was executed this morning for tho murder of his wifo last September. Throughout Bennier has maintained a stolid demeanour, and at times appeared indifferent. When told that the death sentence was to be carried out he Wade no reply, and in all his conwith clergymen never mentioned the crime. Ho passed a restful
night, and ate a hearty breakfast. He walked firmly to the scaffold. Asked if ho desired to say anything, ho replied that he did, and in a low, but clear, voice, said: "I wish to thank the ministers for their kindness, and (after a pause) may. God protect my children." Death was instantaneous.
