The death of Mr Peter Stewart, of Levin rccall3 to a correspondent of the Manawatu Daily Times an interesting experiment conducted by deceased when farming- at Birtiam, near Awahuri, on the property now occupied by Mr John Matthews. Having read much in those days of the cost and difficulty of dyeing woollen fabrio. Mr Stewart collected and selected all the black ewe lambs to be obtained, and endeavoured to raise wool dyed by nature. He succeeded so far as to obtain a predominant colour; but found that it would take mora than a lifetime to fix the type, and, further, that he obtained no better for his "aelf-dved" Drodtict.
