AUCKLAND, January 10. A request that Auckland should be niada the headquarters of the training ship Aniokura for a portion of each year was mad« to tho Hon. Mr Wilford (Minister of Marine) by a deputation representing yachtsmen and launch owners. The Minister said he recognised the facilU ties possessed by Auckland Harbour fa' training purposes, and would instruct tha the Amokura should be stationed at" Auofi land for a certain number of months eact year. He. added that far more application! for admission to tho Amokura than coul<s bo dealt -with were being received front New Zealand youths desirous of following a seafaring life. Tho Government recognised tho necessity for providing more adequate facilities, but the question was 6no of finance. Tho Marine Department was on the lookout for a largo modern vessel, suitable for training puiposes, -but a vessel df the type required would ! be very expensive at present.
