TAIERI MOUTH.

The holiday season has onco again been the occasion of the assembling at Taieri Mouth of those who frequent this pleasure resort each summer. All the houses are full, and camps under canvas are plentiful. Some. new seaside residences have been erected since last year, and a number havo purchased sections with the intention of building, proving the popularity of the locality. The usual social functions have been held this season, one of these being a successful concert on Boxing Night. Owing to the heavy rain on New Year's Eve the usual bonfire and fireworks display were postponed till the following night. This attracted almost every person resident in the place, and an enjoyable evening was spent. A featuro of the programme was the presentation of a caso of cutlery and a valuable neck pendant to Mrs Sinclair (nee Miss Knarston), who had been married a few weeks previously, and to whom all the visitors and local population were under a debt of gratitude for kindness received from time to time. As Mr Brugh said, her many duties as postmistress, storekeeper, etc., were somewhat arduous in the holiday season, yet she- always was unfailing in courtesy and kindness to make the visitors' holiday as happy as she could. At Mr and Mrs Sinclair's request, Mr King (of Milton) replied. Later on the same gentlemen spoke on behalf of tho holidaymakers from Milton and Milburn, acknowfcdging the attention bestowed on visitors by the Knarston family in general. In the course of the speeches reference wos made to the absence of Mr and Mrs Knarston's four sons at the front, one of these (John) being particularly missed on the boats. Mr Brugh announced that a cablegram had been sent to him, wishing him a happy New Year. John's popularity could bo judged from the cheers which followed the' announcement. Opportunity was taken before the gathering dispersed of thanking Mr and Mrs Brugh for tho use of their grounds and house for tho fire display. What is left of the "Bashful Boys' Band" supplied music. Some gramophone selections wcro also entertaining. A word of praise is due to Mr M'Ewan who, in their absence, has safely piloted the craft up and down the river.
