It is estimated that there were £500,000 worth of motor cars at the Palmerston North races on the 28th ult. A largo amount of interest was evinced at Port Ahuriri on Christmas Day, when three pilot whales (blackfish) came through tho entrance to the inner harbour (says the Hawke's Bay Herald). One, probably the largest of the three, about 25ft to 35ft lonjr, got right up to the Iron Pot, while the other two went under the Westshore bridge, and were secured by fishermen and tied to tho shore in that locality.
