MISHAP TO A STEAMER.

WELLINGTON, January 4. The Blackball Company's collier Ngahere, while bound from Grcymouth to Wellington, grounded lightly during a thick fog off Sinclair Head. The vessel was steaming dead slow at the time. Captain Dillner, while endeavouring to pick up Pencarrow light, saw a light which he believed to bo Pencarrow, and steered accordingly, but he kept the vessel's speed at dead slow. A few minutes later rocks were seen ahead, which were recognised as being off Sinclair Head. While backing out the ship touched a rock aft, but as she made no water the captain stood out, and the vessel reached port without further incident.

The light which the ship's officers mistook for Pencarrow was a fire on the hill near Sinclair Head.
