MIDDLE MARCH SPORTS.

The annual sports gathering of the Strath Taieri Caledonian Society, which was of a patriotic nature, took place at Middlemarchon the Ist, and was most successful. The attendance was not large compared with prewar gatherings, butwas very satisfactory. Visitors and competitors from Dunedin on the one side, and Cromwell on the other, were present. Included among the competitors were quite a number of Otago High School and Technical College boys, who have for the past few weeks been assisting in eh earing and other rural occupations at Gladbrook Estate and other properties in the district. The Middlemareh Brass Band, under the baton of Conductor Gibson, enlivened the proceedings with a number of selections. Catering on the ground was capably undertaken by the Anzuc girls, the proceeds being devoted to patriotic purposes. As a matter of fact, the proceeds,, of the gathering as a whole were devoted to patriotic purposes. The management was in the hands of a capable committee, «of which Mr G. Robertson was hon. secretary, and proceedings were carried through without a hitch. •Following are the results: Maiden Race, 100yds.—A. Cockerill 1, T, A. Spratt 2, J. Beattie 3. Six competitors.
