LAW QUERIES.

BIRTHS.

MARRIAGES.

f Answered by • solicitor of the Supreme. Ooart if Heir Zealand. Letters and Telegram* must bo tddroased to "LEX," o/o Editor, Ofcago Witness, D Madia.]

Information. —It would not bo pcssible to set out at length the documents required on an application for adoption. The best course is to attend on the clerk of the local magistrate's court, who will show you all ,the necessary papers. The procedure is simple but lengthy. A solicitor is usually employed in these matters.

Labourer asks:—"lf I take a job of driving a. team of horses at a daily wage, am I entitled! to claim wages for the days on which I do not work ?" Answer: No, unless your employer agreed to pay you wages for such days.

Honest Milk Supplier.—lf a milk supplier or a director has any cause to complain about the scales, the proper course is for the aggrieved party to refer the matter to the Inspector of Weights and Measures, or to lay the complaint before the company in the usual way. Neither has the right to interfere with the scales.

A Forty Years' Reader. —It is only in cases where the legitimacy of the child is the question at issue that such a question cannot be asked of or answered by tfee witness. - Anxious asks:—"Can I visit a friend) who lives in licensed premises after the bar

has been closed?" Answer: Yes. Subscriber asks: —"ls it possible to take action to prevent my neighbour's fowls running over end damaging my garden?" Answer: If the fowls enter upon your property because of a defeotive fence, you should give "* your neighbour the proper notice under "The Fencing Act, 1908," to repair the fence. If your property is damaged, you can take .an action for -' damages against your neighbour, and if you are not the party at fault the magistrate might grant you damages. Orpheus.—The matter is one entirely for the landlord of the premises. Certainly the outgoing tenant, when he vacates the premises, has no right or property in the sign whatever. Any reasonable landlord would

allow you to act as you suggest. In Doubt. —The mere relationship of husband and wife does not entitle a tradesman or other person to assume, in the absence of notice to the contrary, that the wife . has authority to pledge her husband's credit. The notice given by the husband does not materially affect the question in this case, except perhaps still further to protect the husband. "Unless the husband has previously paid you for accounts con"tracted by his wife, your ohanoes of succeeding now are doubtful. Parent.—You are permitted to send certain telegrams free of charge, subject to the regulations of the Telegraph Department. Your proper course is to see the postmaster in your district, who will supply you with all the information you require.
