December 13. —For the past week the weather has been very changeable. Quite a cold snap was experienced at the beginning of this week; but it has now cleared up, and it is quite warm to-day. Death. —The death took place at Lochiel (Southland) on Friday last of Mrs Mackie, wife of Mr John Mackie, a former resident of this district. Deceased, who was only 30 years of age, had been in bad health for some time past. The interment took place at "Winton on Sunday. . The husband and one daughter are left to mourn their loss. Personal. —Captain L. Eobertson, officer m charge Lake Wakatipu steamer service, who offered' his services to the Admiralty some time ago, has now been, advised by the Imperial Government to hold himself in readiness to proceed shortly to England, where he will go into naval training. He has been given a sub-lieutenancy in the Royal Navy Reserve. —Mr E:. M. Tarlton, who has been on the staff of the Queenstown branch of the Bank of New Zealand for tbe past 18 months, left Queenstown on Tuesday, on transfer to the Dunedin office. —Mr Hi. C. Salmond, son of Mr and Mrs. John Salmond, Queenstown, who has been for some time in the Railway Department, has joined the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Queenstown. —Mrs Martin, Crown terrace, received advice last week that her son, Private Wm. Martin, had been admitted to the Second General Hospital, London, suffering from fever. Mrs. Martin received word yesterday that her son is progressing satisfactorily.— Mr J. S. Collins, Queenstown, received advice on Monday that his son, Private A. J. Collins, is in Codford Hospital suffering from septic poisoning.
