At mid-day on Saturday the Limehills Public Hall and contents—library, piano, Good Templars' regalia, and . other articles —were totally destroyed by firo (reports the Southland Times). A strong wind was blowing at the time, and the efforts of several residents, who were quickly on the scene, made no impression on the flames. The building was a smouldering mass with in half-an-hour. The cause is not known. The insurances were with the New Zealand Company—£2oo on tho hall, £SO on the library, and £35 on tho piano, „ The loss is a very heavy one, as the building could not now bo erected under £soo\ The committeo also possessed a splendid library.
