There has been no transaction reported in thfe grain and produce market. SOUTHLAND MARKETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, December 15. There is absolutely no business doing in oats further than a small quantity for local trade. The market is quite stagnant, with the exception of an occasional .'nquiry for forward delivery in February or March. A few small lines have reached Auckland in a somewhat irregular manner, on odd tramp steamers, but as shipping facilities at present are more awkward than usual it is hardly possible that any of these opportunities tvill present themselves for some little time. It is expected locally that before the departure of the next direct boat from Bluff a fair amount of inquiry wilj come in from Auckland. Farmers, basing their ideas on tho smallness of the area in crop locally, are firm, holders of any oats in their possession. During the past week a fair quantity of chaff has been on offer, but, despite that fact, it has been readily picked up at £6 (on trucks) for prime quality. It is somewhat difficult to forecast the future of the oats market, but as far as chaff is concerned, owing to the undoubtedly small area ; n cwi -nects for this are decidedly good for 1918. i Ky. gra:-_ ;iid seeds generally-are' still going out in fairly large quantities for local sowing down. It is anticipated that the yield of ryegrass will be greater than the harvest of 1917, the paddocks shut off for seed being in magnificent condition. Flaxmillers seem more anxious to do business than they have been for some time, but merchants are little disposed to buy, and it is doubtful if £46 (on trucks) could be obtained for high fair. OTA GO FARMERS' HORSE BAZAAR. The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association report: We held our weekly sale of horses on Saturday. The entry was small, only 33 horses of all descriptions coming forward. The number of draughts offered was the smallest we have had for some, time, and there were few buyers. The consignment of harness horses and ponies on account of Mr H. M. Jarden. of Heathcote (Canterbury) met a fair sale, and the whole;entry changed owners at auction at fairly good prices. We anticipate an improved demand for good yeung and sound geldings immediately after the Christmas holidays. Quotations: Young, sound, sharp, clifty geldings, £25 to £2B; extra heavy horses, £26 to £32; seven-year-old and over mares and geldings, £l3 to £2O; and what is usually termed aged, £lO to £l2; vanners and spring-carters, £l4 to £2O; light sorts of harness horses, at fluctuating prices. HARBOUR BOARD LEASES. The Otago Harbour Board leases were sold by auction on the 17Jh by Messrs Park, nolds (Ltd.), to tho present tenants at the upset rentals. The leases comprised section 27, block 63 (John Mill and Co.), and section 51, block 74 (executors of the late O. F. Greenslade), allotments 72 and 73, Sunshine, with a six-roomed house, y were also sold by order of the Supreme Court registrar. They were purchased by the mortgagee for £BOO.
