MANIOTOTO SHOW

The weather was beautifully fine on Thursday for the annual show of the Mamototo Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and as a result there was a large attendance from all parts of the district. There were good entries in almost all the classes, and some very fine stock wasshown. The feature of the show was the horse classes, some of. the .finest Clydesdales on the plain appearing in the ring. The light horses were strong numerically, and there were several fine types of hacks and harness horses ringed. The cattle-penned were limited in number, and in Shorthorns Mr. J. Weir secured first prize unopposed for bull any age, and for cow in milk, any age, Mr J. M'Leod was first, and Mr J. .Tisdall second and third. The last-mentioned was first and second with a dry cow, and Mr M'Leod secured the three awards in the class for heifer two years and under, and first and second for yearling' heifer, Mr Tisdall being third. There wero. only two entries in Herefords, these being in the dry cow class. The animals entered were the property of Mr W. Pringle,' and were awarded first and second tickets respectively. The prizes in the classes for "any other breed" were divided between Messrs J. Weir. G. Bell, Pringle, Tisdall, and W. Dowling. Mr Pringle was the principal prize-taker in fat cattlo with two first, two seconds, and a third in three classes, and Mr Tisdall was first for fat cow or heifer, with Mr M'Leod second, and Mr Pringle third.

There were few entries in sheep. Mr M'Leod won all the prizes in BorderLeicesters, Corriedales, and stove sheep, and he was first for two fat crossbred wethers, two fat halfbred wethers, two freezers. Mr Pringle secured first and second awards for two fat merino wethers, first and second for three fat lambs, first and second for two fat ewes, and second and third for two halfbred wethers. In the three dog sections, Mr M'Leod was first and Mr. Pringle second for rousrh collie. Mr Driscoll first for smooth collie, and Mr* Davis first for bearded collie.

In draught horses Mr Tisdall was first for entire any age, mare in foal or with foal at foot, dry mare, mare and two of her progeny, pair of mares or geldings, and best four-horse team. He secured the champion ticket for best mare in the show and also a number of minor award's, thus winning the trophy for most points in draught horses. Mr M'Leod was first for gelding any age, best two-year-old by Homeland's Pride, and two-year-old filly, and Messrs Glenn and Duncan filled the minor places in the principal classes. Mr W. Davis was first for mare or gelding any age, second for pair of mares or geldings and best three-horse team. The competition in b'ght horse classes was fairly keen. For thoroughbred mare or gelding, Mr E. J. Dohertv was first, with Mis 3 Trotter second. Mr C. Grant was first amonsr seven entries, for best paced hack, with Mr P. Kinney, jun., second and W. Wills third. Mr Doherty was first in the 11stone hack class, Miss Trotter being second and Mr Kinnev third. Mr Doherty won in the 14-stone hack class, with Mr Grant second, and Mr A. Trotter third. Miss Kinney was first for lady's hack, with Miss Trotter second and third. Miss Trotter won the prize awarded for the best lady rider. Mr A. Cromo won unopposed in 'the 15-hand cob class, and for 14-hand pony Mr Doherty was first and Mr J. Walker second. Mr Crome was first for buggy horse. Mr D. Blanchard second, and Mr J. M'Naughton third. For- best two-wheeled turn-out, Mr Blanchard was first Mr M'Naughton second, and Mr Grant third. For spring carter up to 12cwt. Mr W. M'Carthy was first and Mr Dowling second. In the competitions, tho two pony trots were won by Master U. Walker, with Mnster J. Indor and H. Duncan second and third respectively in each* event. < Miss Trotter won the leaping contest, with Mr Doherty second, and Mr Doherty won the hiffh iumn. Mr L. Weir won the polo contest. Mr J. Dunn being second. Mr TivWl. in add'tion to scoring tno=t points for draught horses, also secured the ivVhr"** numlrr of points in catH*\ beating Mr M'Leod by one point. The latter. however. wa«- first with the most no<nt<» in sheen, and Mr Doherty scored most points in light horses. THE WEATHER. Changeable weather was experienced in Dunedin during the week-end. Heavy rnin fpll about midday on Saturday, but in the afternoon the weather became fine and warm. Rain fell again late at night, and showers were experienced at fairly frequent intervals on Sunday, the weather becoming very cold. Mora rain fell on Monday. (From Oft? and sunny, and the rain appears to be over. The grain crops arc looking well, and this rain practically put them beyond danger of drought. BECKS, December 15. The rainfall registered yesterday was 85 points. This month 326 points have fallen. Shearing and haymaking are stopped again.
