LAMBING ESTIMATES.
GOOD SEASON IN NORTH ISLAND. The Agricultural Department's estimate of lambing in the North Island has been completed (says the Wellington correspondent of the Lyttclton Times), and shows an increase in the number of lambs this season, compared with the number tailed last season, of 326,462. Tho percentage last year was 85|, but this season shows an improvement, the .percentage being 87 jr. The .Government Statistician, in publishing tho figures, states that for two -years past the Department of Agriculture has made up these returns, and has found the estimates to agree very closely with the number of lambs tailed, as disclosed by the collection taken in February and March. The publication of the estimates will give farmers, freezing companies, and others some definite data on which to arrive at "an opinion as to how far killing may go without unduly depleting the, flocks. The same information for the South.lsland will probably bo ready for publication in a month's time. The following shows the number of lambs tailed and the" estimated number of lambs in the North'lsland this season: Estimated Lambs • ■ lambs. tailed. 1915-16 ... .- 5.753.329 5,771,143 1916-17 ... ... 6:203,726 6,212,573 1917-18 6,539,075
