.case for tho police, said 'that Winifred Carrick, mother of the child, who is now on remand charged with its wilful murder, had declined to attend the inquiry, as also had her solicitor. Evidence "was given that the child was asleep in its bed at 9 p.m. on Friday. Tho coroner returned a verdict that the cause of death was laceration of the brain, the result of wounds inflicted by some person or persons, there being no evidence as f.o whom such person or persons were.
